Huddersfield Giants have confirmed the signing of Leeds Rhinos forward Ellie Oldroyd for the 2024 Women’s Super League, bolstering their squad for next season’s bid in promotion back into Group 1.

Oldroyd is a product of the Rhinos’ U19 system, breaking into the senior team in 2018. During her time there, she won the Challenge Cup twice (2018, 2019), the Super League (2019) and the League Leaders Shield (2018)

Oldroyd was also a member of the Leeds side that won the inaugural edition of the Women’s Rugby League Nines Final back in 2021.

She last played for the Headingley-based outfit versus Leigh Miners Rangers in the 2022 Women’s Challenge Cup, grabbing herself a try straight off the bench in their dominating 92–0 win.

She was a key figure in the Rhinos’ earlier seasons, as strong attacking as she was defending. She leaves with 7 top-flight tries in the blue and amber.

It’s been a bleak season for the Giants, their only win from 9 coming versus a weakened Leeds unit at Headingley. Their relegation to Group 2 alongside Warrington Wolves is all but confirmed.

For Huddersfield, Oldroyd’s signing is promising heading into the 2024 season.

Having lost Bella Sykes and Izzy Northrop to Leeds, Erin Stott to St Helens, and fullback Pippa Curley being committed to union for the majority of the season, the Giants will be looking to recruit big to bounce back to shades of their Super League Shield winning season.
